The personnel pool for fire and EMS is shrinking effecting the number of persons interested in leadership positions. Combined with the increased responsibilities and financial challenges faced by many ESOs, those willing to serve as leaders are even fewer. This session will discuss the importance of having a succession plan and job descriptions for key positions – chief officers, line officers and board members - as part of the overall planning process for the organization, the role of mentoring and the importance of investing in personnel development.
