The problem was that the North Maine Fire Protection District (NMFPD) has never completed a formal risk assessment to guide its resource allocation. The purpose of the research was to identify and evaluate NMFPD's fire and non-fire risks. Descriptive methodology answered: a) what methods have other fire service agencies used to assess their risk, b) how can the NMFPD identify and evaluate its fire and non-fire risk, c) what are the NMFPD's fire and non-fire risks? Literature review findings illustrated existing risk assessment concepts that were systematically utilized to identify the NMFPD community's risk. Results yielded a complete listing of NMFPD's target hazards. Recommendations included the implementation of a comprehensive risk analysis and hazard mitigation program.
