Overall, the review found no strongly supported differences in primary outcomes across the three common methods of airway management. Authors of the report say this could be due to study limitations or because no one approach to managing an airway in the prehospital setting is consistently more effective across different patients, clinical presentations and environments. They call for future research, including randomized controlled trials, that focus on particular patient subgroups and other factors.
