The problem was at South Kitsap Fire and Rescue (SKFR) the different generations had distinct perceptions of what constitutes respectful behavior. The purpose of this research was to develop relational strategies used to effectively integrate the four generational cohorts at SKFR. Descriptive research methodology was used to answer the following five research questions: (a) What constitutes respectful behavior? (b) What does each group consider respectful behavior? (c) What does each group consider disrespectful behavior? (d) What relational tools would help integrate and provide a better working environment amongst the four generations at SKFR? (e) What training should take place to help develop stronger working relationships amongst the four generations at SKFR? A literature review was used to establish a foundation for the subject matter. Two methods of descriptive research methodology were employed to strengthen the compiled data including an internal survey and interviews of SKFR members. Replies to the survey were evaluated using Microsoft Excel and PivotTables where the data was analyzed based on six identified data sets. The most significant result captured through this project was the relational value of trust was identified as the number one organizational value in the survey results. In addition, almost all members agreed that in order to respect others, trust must be earned through dependable actions. The change that needs to take place at SKFR is the development, implementation and embracing of shared organizational values. This single relational tool has the potential to positively impact the culture and organizational norms in ways that will change how members interact with one another.
