The problem to be addressed by this Applied Research Project (ARP) was that the City of Burleson did not have a Severe Weather Plan. The purpose of this (ARP) was to develop a severe weather plan for the City of Burleson. Action research methodology was used to complete this task. Four research questions were developed to drive the research: (a) What actions should be taken by the City of Burleson in order to prepare for a potential severe weather event? (b) How should the City of Burleson monitor for a potential severe weather event? (c) Who should be notified of potential and/or imminent severe weather? (d) How should severe weather notifications be made? Two procedures were used to inform this research: personal interviews with emergency management staff, administration, and stakeholders, and nominal group process. The results of the research included the establishment of a notification matrix, monitoring procedures, and provided notification options. It was recommended that the City of Burleson adopt the proposed Severe Weather Plan that included the use of a tiered preparedness system, established specific departmental preparedness actions based off of the threat level, utilize a notification matrix to alert proper personnel, and ensure continuous monitoring.
