On March 6, 2019, Governor Mills issued Executive Order No. 5 FY 19/20 titled "An Order to Study the Threats of PFAS Contamination to Public Health and the Environment." Governor Mills established a task force comprised of key state and community representatives.

In July 2019, the State Fire Marshal's office distributed a survey letter. The results of the survey combined with the other work products were combined into the Maine PFAS Task Force Final Report dated January 2020. The fire department survey summary is included on page 43.

Reporting

A person causing a discharge of AFFF into any waters of the state shall report the discharge as soon as practicable, but no later than 24 hours after the discharge occurs. 

Notification

Beginning on January 1, 2023, a manufacturer of a product that contains PFAS materials shall submit a written notification, subject to some exemptions.

11/16/2020 died in possession of the Senate at the conclusion of the 129th legilature
