The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Division of Fire Safety are working with local fire departments to safely disposes of Class B Aqueous Film Forming Foam, known as AFFF.
Any Fire Department with less than 220 pounds of foam (approximately five 5-gallon pails) can make an appointment to drop these containers off at any of the locations listed on the Vermont website at https://anr.vermont.gov/node/1276 or click on the related article titled "State Partners with Local Fire Departments to Safely Get Rid of Toxic Firefighting Foam" found on the right side of this page.
Discharge and Use
A person, municipality, or state agency must not discharge or use AFFF for training purposes. Also, a manufacturer of AFFF shall not manufacture, sell, or distribute AFFF, subject to numerous exceptions.
Personal Protective Equipment
A manufacturer that sells PPE to any person, municipality, or state agency shall provide written notice to the purchaser at the time of sale if the PPE contains PFAS.
