Each individual brings a diverse collection of life experiences and belief systems into the emergency services workplace. While there is common ground on answering emergency calls, the characteristic elements possessed by personnel may be in conflict with others in the organization. Differences Without Division is a 2-hour VFIS instructor-led seminar focused on creating an awareness on workplace discrimination and better understanding the bias inside each of us. The session will ask participants to consider what it is like to “walk in another person’s shoes” and will discuss bad behavior versus what is illegal in the workplace. At the conclusion, the participant will gain a better understanding of the consequences associated with workplace discrimination and how bias influences individual action.
