Alcohol on Premises

VFIS Logo 287 Rbg

The use of alcoholic beverages on your property presents you with a serious liability exposure. You have a responsibility to control this exposure so that your members, or their guests, do not present a hazard when they leave.

We recommend that you prohibit the use of alcoholic beverages on your property. If this is not possible, we recommend that you institute the following controls whenever alcohol is served at formal events, like a Christmas party, or informal events, such as a training session.

  1. There should be a responsible person in charge of serving the alcoholic beverages. This person should check the ages of the persons being served and monitor how much each person is consuming. They should also watch for any signs of intoxication.
  2. Your organization should discourage intoxicated persons from driving. You should offer the person a ride or offer to call a taxi.
