Consider Removal of Bird Nesting in Exterior Bulkhead
Overgrowth of ground vegetation and birds nesting at a communications tower site can create additional risk of unintended loss. Bird nesting and vegetation – especially dead vegetation – can be combustible and serve as fuel for fires and attract unwanted moisture. Birds nesting in the area of the communication tower may also become destructive to equipment from clawing, pecking or waste dropping accumulation. Before removal of any nesting materials, your Fish and Wildlife Authority should be contacted to assure there are no regulations governing removal of a protected species.
During the recent Risk Control Survey, it was noted there was nesting materials around the exterior bulkhead on one of your buildings. We recommend routine maintenance and inspections at tower sites to reduce nesting and vegetation overgrowth associated hazards.
