Medical Evaluations

Description:

When responding to a call for service, emergency vehicle operators have in their hands the major assets of your Emergency Service Organization (ESO), as well as the lives and welfare of their fellow responders and the general public. Because of this, it is important to determine the health and fitness for the task of each member that operates an emergency vehicle.

During our review it was noted that your ESO does not provide members with a physical or medical evaluation at the time of application as well as on an ongoing basis.

VFIS recommends that your ESO provide a medical evaluation to determine a responder's ability to operate an emergency vehicle and its related tasks.

VFIS has developed a sample Annual Medical Statement Form which can be found by clicking on the first link on the Additional Resources list.
