Phone System Equipment Electrical Surge Protection

VFIS Logo 287 Rbg

As with the electrical and antenna conductors, phone line systems that use conductive wiring are subject to carrying a surge and/or to being damaged by surges induced upon them.  The phone company will normally have some level of system surge protection at their interface box, but phone systems are now typically supplemented with a number of electrically powered components (e.g., to handle multiple lines or provide music or supply high-speed internet access), which can be another source of surge.  To reduce this exposure we discussed using an electrical SPD for powered equipment and verifying that a phone line SPD is in use on your side of the interface box.
